Indian coal miners' strike enters second day
January 7 , 2015
Millions of Indian coal miners are continuing their strike as talks with the government failed, according to media reports.
The strike, which has entered its second day, was called to protest at the move of BJP government that allowed private firms greater access into the industry.
According to some reports, around 75% of India’s daily coal production has been hit, leading to concerns about disruptions in power supply.
The strike call was given by five unions who represent around 3.7 million coal miners working for Coal India, a state-run enterprise.
