India signs MoU with Uzbekistan to boost bilateral ties

  • India signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Uzbekistan on Wednesday to upgrade the Jawaharlal Nehru Uzbekistan Center for Information Technology at Tashkent.

The move comes in a bid to further bilateral ties.

The MoU was signed in the presence of the visiting Indian Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari, who is on a four-day official tour of the country.

India and Uzbekistan’s bilateral trade currently stands at $200 million.

Ansari is being accompanied by a delegation made up of Minister of Environment and Forests, Jayanthi Natrajan, and four other federal lawmakers.

Ahead of the withdrawal of international forces from Afghanistan next year, the main agenda of Ansari’s visit will focus on Afghanistan's future and Uzbekistan’s role in tackling Islamic terrorism.
