Increasing minimum wage in Seattle may not be the best idea
May 6 , 2014
Seattle plans to increase its minimum wage to $15 and Jordon Weissman of Slate said the idea sounds like a good one for economists but it may not be as good for the city.
"Any plan that makes hiring a worker more expensive in France should be cause for concern," he writes. Weissman notes that employers in high-wage countries in Europe tend to rely on automation in order to replace workers with machines.
However, Weissman is still glad the city is going forward with the plan since it's "better that one city's job market crash than a whole country's."
