IAG may buy stake in American Airlines
August 13 , 2012
British Airways parent International Airlines Group is mulling over buying a stake in its oneworld alliance partner American Airlines.
The move could potentially halt any takeover of American by IAG rival Delta.
A source close to the matter said the possibility of buying a stake in American was not linked to a bid by Delta.
American Airlines is seen as a lucrative target for Delta, and if such a takeover were to be carried out, it would break up the oneworld alliance and increase competition against IAG on transatlantic routes.
