HP to split into two firms

  • Hewlett-Packard (HP) will split into two separate firms as part of a major restructuring plan that has also seen thousands of job cuts.

The American technology giant is separating its computer and printer business from the corporate hardware and services units.

Shareholders would get a stake in both businesses.

Meg Whitman, the current chief executive of HP, will lead Hewlett Packard Enterprise, the new corporate hardware and services operations firm.

Whitman said the split will provide both companies with the flexibility needed to "adapt quickly to market and customer dynamics”.
