Hertz and Dollar Thrifty sign $2.3 billion takeover deal

  • Car hire firm Hertz is to buy rival Dollar Thrifty for $2.3 billion.

The deal marks the end of a long-running takeover battle for one of the United States’ biggest car rental firms.

The new partners said the deal would lead to "significant growth opportunities" along with $160 million worth of cost savings each year.

Combined, the two companies racked up sales of $10.2 billion in the year to the end of July.
