American network HBO is starting an online streaming service, which will pit it against established players like Netflix and Amazon.
HBO Now is due to be available to US customers from April for $14.99 per month.
HBO, which is part of Time Warner, pioneered the cable television movement in the US and is behind hit shows such as 'The Sopranos'.
The firm has a streaming service operating currently, but only customers who have a cable subscription can access it.
