Groupon's Presidents' Day mistake was no mistake
February 19 , 2014
Groupon gave its customers a deal as well as a lesson in American history this year.
The press release of the company mentioned that it wanted to honor former president Alexander Hamilton by offering the deal. "The $10 bill, as everyone knows, features President Alexander Hamilton undeniably one of our greatest presidents and most widely recognized for establishing the country's financial system," the press release said.
The issue was that Hamilton was never a president of the U.S. but a founder of the financial system instead. Turns out that Groupon knew this fact all along but wanted to do "something different that was in line with our brand and sense of humor that got people talking and writing about Groupon," a spokesman said.
