Google showcases Nexus 7 tablet

  • Google Inc. showcased the new and slimmer Nexus 7 on Wednesday.

Nexus 7 will be priced at $US229 for a 16 gigabyte basic version of the tablet. Last year, the basic version of 8 gigabytes had started at $US199.

This announcement came a week before the unveiling of the Moto X smartphone by Motorola division. Moto X is central to relaunching the Motorola brand in this competitive mobile market.

Google Inc. wants Nexus 7 to be a hit since more users for the same would mean a greater exposure to its ads. This might just end up happening since Android and Chrome chief Sundar Pichai reportedly said "since its launch, the Nexus 7 line alone has accounted for greater than 10 percent of all Android tablets sold".
