Google and Microsoft Oppose Marriott's Petition

  •  In a move that indicates the hotel industry’s intent  to keep charging people exorbitant rates for Wi-Fi, Marriott (MAR) and the hotel lobby American Hospitality & Lodging Association wants to prevent guests from using their data allotment from their mobile phones.

Marriott charges connection rates at $14.95 per day. In order to avoid such high Wi-Fi charges, many guests connect to the Internet via their smartphones.

On the other hand, Google and Microsoft have opposed Marriott's attempt to block access to personal Wi-Fi hotspots, arguing that it would harm the public interest.
