GM's Opel to cut production in Germany
August 23 , 2012
Opel, the German unit of U.S. automaker General Motors (GM) is set to halt production at its factory in Ruesselheim for 20 days this year, according to reports by German radio station hr-iNFO.
Last year, GM lost $747 million on its European operations. However, it may be able to apply for subsidies under the German government's short-work program if management and workers agree to shorter working hours.
Under the plan, the Ruesselsheim factory would be shut for 10 days in September after September 6 and for 10 days in October and November.
