German pilots strike again over pension provisions
October 20 , 2014
Lufthansa airline pilots are again on strike from midday Monday, October 20, their eighth strike since April, which is expected to continue for 35 hours, according to media reports. Even as train drivers in Germany ended their strike that disrupted rail traffic over the weekend and several German rail travelers faced delays and cancellations.
The German carrier has cancelled 1,450 flights that were scheduled on Monday and Tuesday.
The pilots are demanding that Lufthansa reconsider its plans to change their pension scheme. In a statement the pilots’ union accused the airline of “stonewalling” the issue, despite multiple strikes this year.
