French unemployment hits new high

  • The number of unemployed people in France rose to a new high last month, according to official data released on Thursday.

There are now some 3.2 million people looking for work, an increase of 11.5 percent compared to last year. The rate of jobseekers is the highest since records began in January 1996.

French President Francois Hollande has pledged to reverse the trend by the end of the year.
