French PM pushes through labour market reforms despite opposition
February 19 , 2015
French Prime Minister Manuel Valls has pushed through key economic reforms using an emergency provision and without seeking a parliamentary vote.
The reforms include scrapping barriers in law firms and extending opening hours for shops.
Valls faces opposition to the labor market reforms from some of his own party MPs.
Though the Socialist Party has a majority, it now faces a confidence vote. The reforms will come into force if the French government wins the vote.
