Former Colombian president nominated for News Corp board

  • Rupert Murdoch's News Corp announced on Tuesday its nomination of lvaro Uribe, former president of Colombia, along with Elaine L. Chao, former U.S. secretary of labor, to its board.

The pair will stand for election during News Corp's annual shareholder meeting on October 16 in Los Angeles.

Current directors Andrew Knight and John Thornton will retire from the board after the annual meeting while board member Arthur Siskind will serve as a director emeritus.

News Corp is to split its $60 billion media empire into two separate publishing and entertainment businesses next year in order to offer protection to its more profitable television operations from its UK newspaper business following a phone hacking scandal.

The company's assets include 20th Century Fox, the Fox News Channel, the Wall Street Journal and book publishers HarperCollins.
