First female to join GM as CEO
December 11 , 2013
General Motors CEO Dan Akerson is soon to resign and name Mary Barra in charge. Barra would be the first female to head the auto giant.
AP noted that Barra was an engineering co-op student at GM in 1980 and later became the product development chief. She oversaw the Chevy Impala among other vehicles in 2011.
"I always thought that if there was going to be a female CEO it would be Marry Barra," industry veteran Bob Lutz said. "She must now maintain the momentum. There is an excellent team in place but she can't take her foot off the accelerator and allow the company to lapse back into its old ways."
