Fake IRS agents demand payment
March 22 , 2014
If an Internal Revenue Service agent threatens you regarding your unpaid taxes over the phone and asks for an immediate settlement, don't be scared since it's not actually an IRS agent.
Tax officials are referring to the scam as being the largest one of its kind and fake agents have bilked about $1M from people this way. Reports suggest that the scammers ask people to pay using wire transfer or through a debit card after threatening them with deportation and arrest.
A woman named Halah Touryalai almost got victimized when she was told to pay $4,900 in order to cancel her warrant but she discovered that the whole thing was fake after reading the IRS website.
