ECB raises emergency funding to Greek banks by €3.3bn

  • The European Central Bank (ECB) has agreed to raise the emergency funding to Greek banks to €68.3 billion, an increase of €3.3 billion, reports said.

The rise in the emergency liquidity assistance is crucial for Greek banks, with depositors taking savings out of Greece.

The country’s central bank is believed to have requested an additional €10 billion in emergency funding.

Last week, the ECB had increased the amount available to the country's banks by €5 billion.
