Doctors with ties to industry prescribe costly drugs
November 20 , 2013
A recent investigation revealed that several doctors choose to prescribe expensive and branded drugs to low-income patients and cost taxpayers millions of dollars each year.
This could either be because doctors believe in branded versions for Medicare patients or because these physicians "have accepted thousands of dollars in promotional or consulting fees from drug companies."
The issue is that Medicare isn't like other plans and doesn't limit doctors from prescribing pricey drugs. For instance, a physician in LA could have saved Medicare as much as $5M in 2011 if only he had chosen to prescribe a different way.
