Deepwater Horizon disaster: BP may have to pay billions in additional fines

A US district judge has ruled that BP had been reckless and negligent in the Deepwater Horizon disaster that killed 11 people and led to a massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
The verdict by judge Carl Barbier means that the oil firm may end up facing $18bn in additional fines.
Following the verdict, BP’s share price was down by 5%, which wiped over £5bn in the stock market.
