Criminal inquiry opened into GM recall
March 13 , 2014
More pressure is being put on General Motors since two congressional committees opened a criminal investigation in regards to the company handling a deadly effect in some compact cars.
A person briefed on the matter mentioned that the Justice Department is making sure that GM didn't break any laws with its slow response to the defect in compact cars. The problem is why the company recalled 1.6M older-model compact cars only in February despite knowing about the problem for one decade.
Committees in the House and Senate also want to find out as to why the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration didn't take action any sooner.
