Companies to add kill switches to phones
June 22 , 2014
San Francisco district attorney George Gascon said Microsoft and Google are expected to add kill switches in their upcoming operating systems.
He made the announcement along with New York attorney general Eric Schneiderman, who noted that the commitments of these companies are "toward consumer safety and the statistics released today illustrate the stunning effectiveness of kill switches."
Media notes that kill switches will let users erase data from their phones in case they are stolen or lost. The interesting part is that it would be possible for them to restore the same data if the device is found.
