Cars recall: Japanese firm Takata 'working to address airbag flaw'

  • Car parts manufacturer Takata is seeking to replace a chemical substance used in its airbags as it works to fix a glitch that led to several deaths and injuries in the US.

The Japanese firm said it was attempting to deliver airbags without the ammonium nitrate propellant in them. The airbag flaw led to the recall of 34 million cars across the US, the biggest such recall in American history. According to some experts, in conditions of intense heat and humidity, ammonium nitrate may become unstable.
