Canada: Toronto taxi drivers sue Uber for $307mn
July 26 , 2015
Uber, the popular taxi-booking app, has been sued by taxi drivers in Toronto, Canada’s biggest city.
Drivers are seeking $307 million in damages and want Uber to stop its operations in Ontario province. They claim that such app-based services have led to an “enormous” illegal transportation marketplace in the city.
A provincial court had earlier rejected a bid to stop Uber services in Toronto.
Uber described the new lawsuit as “protectionist”.
