Campaign raises $10K for woman who stole fountain change

  • The woman who stole $2.87 from a courthouse fountain so she could buy food was arrested but there's still good news for her: A campaign has managed to raise $10,000 for Deidre Romine and all the donations will be handed over to her case manager.

The local police chief said her case has "tugged at the heartstrings of folks" but they "also have a job to do."

He mentioned that the result of the incident could have been something other than Romine's arrest, had she been more forthcoming while being questioned.

Romaine's trial is scheduled to begin next month.
