Cadbury created fake factory to avoid India taxes
March 6 , 2013
Cadbury, now part of Mondelez International, created a fake factory in India to avoid around $46 million in taxes, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday.
Citing a report by Indian tax authorities, the WSJ said Cadbury's Indian unit manipulated invoices and other documents in order to be exempt from taxes available to companies that began production in new plants in the northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh by March 31, 2010.
The company only received a certificate to begin production at a new plant on January 14, 2011, and a factory license on May 29, 2010.
