Bacon prices may rise due to pig virus
January 12 , 2014
Bacon lovers should be warned that pork prices may see an increase due to a fast-spreading virus among pigs.
The porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PED) is only lethal to pigs but the number of pigs being lost every week will probably push prices beyond $3.81 a pound.
"This is the toughest disease we've ever gone through" a general manager of a pork farm in Oklahoma said. "It was stunning how fast the disease spread. You feel helpless."
