American and US Airways to merge
November 14 , 2013
The feds have agreed to the creation of world's biggest airline by allowing US Airways and American Airlines to merge.
The agreement requires the two airlines to scale back the merger size in big city airports such as Reagan National Airport at Washington. The Justice Department also made sure to save some of their runway slots for low-cost carriers in Chicago, Boston, New York, Miami and Dallas.
The new airline will be Washington's top one but will operate fewer daily departures both at Reagan National and LaGuardia.
According to an analyst, the airlines gave up a lot but the two companies will still benefit financially.
