  • Internet publishing giant Amazon has bought Twitch, a service that provides streaming video games, for $970m, as per media reports.

The firm, which was founded in 2011, permits users to watch others play games. It has more than 55 million unique viewers per month.

YouTube, which is a part of Google, was earlier said to be in talks for buying Twitch.

Jeff Bezos, the chief executive of Amazon, said Twitch had built a platform “that brings together tens of millions of people who watch billions of minutes of games each month.”
