After selling FT, Pearson set to sell its 50% stake in Economist Group

  • Pearson has confirmed reports that it intends to sell its 50 per cent stake in the Economist Group. The statement from the publishing firm comes days after it said it was selling the Financial Times (FT) Group to Japanese firm Nikkei for £844 million.

Though Person has not named potential buyers, the Italian Agnelli family is said to be interested in increasing its holding in the Economist Group. The family’s investment arm Exor currently has a 4.72% stake in the Group. However, both sides have stressed that there is no certainty of any such deal.
