Ouahigouya is considered to be one of the most interesting and important towns in Burkina Faso. The town is easily accessible from the other towns and cities of Burkina Faso and especially from the capital of the country, Ouagadougou. The foundation of the town of Ouahigouya in Burkina Faso was laid way back in the mid-18th century in the year 1757. The city was founded as the capital of Yatenga.

Ouahigouya of Burkina Faso is an important tourist destination in the country. There are several places of visit, which include the Kaba Kango’s Tomb, an artificial lake and the Yatenga Naba’s compound. In some places of Ouahigouya, there is active nightlife, though the place is not very safe for travelers and tourists after dark.

After the establishment of the city, it underwent several harsh situations and conditions. The city got destroyed several times and was the point of attack of many invaders. Ouahigouya became a little safe after the French started constructing a fort to protect the city in the year 1896. But even then the onslaught did not stop completely. The marketplace of Ouahigouya at Burkina Faso was also destructed in a bomb blast during the Christmas War of 1985. Many innocent people lost their lives in the incident.
