Brunei society and culture exhibits diversity in all its aspects. The society of Brunei comprises of people from various ethnic groups. A sizable section of the population is Muslims while the rest are Christians and Muslims. Malay is the official language of the state. Though the status of official language has been conferred on Islam, the Constitution of Brunei guarantees its citizens the freedom to practice a religion of their choice. Brunei people prefer to use their complete names. The men who have made a trip to the Holy Land or Haj are addressed by the title of Haji while the women are designated with the title of Hajah. The culture of Brunei displays a harmonious blend of elements from diverse cultures including Islam, Hinduism, animism and the Western world. Brunei boasts of a rich cultural legacy and its museums, theaters, music, language and other aspects of cultural life testify this fact. Society and culture in Brunei displays diversity in all its aspects.
