Kapan Map



Kapan is a beautiful Armenian city set in a mountainous terrain. Nonetheless, greenery is quite abundant in Kapan as there are several dense forests in the area. This Armenian city, initially a busy mining town was originally built in the late 19 th century along with the French capital.

Loaction of Kapan:
Kapan is located in the Armenian province of Syunik and is its provincial capital. Kapan is constructed along two rivers that meet in southern Armenia.

Attractions in Kapan:
  • Kapan is known for its huge towering hotels that adorn the main square.
  • Kapan has a very famous museum and some beautiful fortresses and monasteries. Vahanavank monastery stands out among them.
  • The ruins of the much famed Halidzor fortress containing the remnants of a church is located on the western border of Kapan. It was constructed in 17 th century originally as a nunnery, it later became the main activity center of the famous freedom fighter Davit Bek. The fortress is the reflection of Armenia's ling standing history.
  • The northeastern border of Kapan lies yet another historical marvel, a 17 th century church.
  • In the northwestern part of Kapan lies the prominent erstwhile village of Achakhlu. Probably in this area also lies the erstwhile village of Bashkend containing a Greek church as well as the remnants of the Achanan castle.
FC Gandzasar Kapan and Syunik Kapan are two popular Armenian football clubs based in Kapan. Kapan city had gradually taken to the path of economic development. Its industrial sector rests on the newly privatized polymetallic deposits. Other industries in Kapan include animal husbandry, growing retail sector and mining support services.
