The Great American Eclipse is a total eclipse of the sun that will be visible from many states in the contiguous United States on August 21st<\/sup>, 2017. The last time a total eclipse of the sun was visible from the US was in 1991 (visible only from Hawaii). In 1979, the last solar eclipse visible from continental US occurred and it was about a century ago in 1918 that a total solar eclipse made its way across from the Pacific coast to the Atlantic coast.
