Where is San Marino?<\/h2>\n

San Marino is a Southern European country that is located on the northeastern side of the Apennine Mountains. San Marino is an enclave in Central Italy, surrounded by Italy.<\/p>\n

What is the Geography of San Marino?<\/h3>\n

The total area of San Marino is 61.2 sq. km (23.6 sq. mi) and the entire area is land area and no water area. It has a 37 km (23 mi) long land boundary, which is completely shared with Italy. As it is completely landlocked, there is no coastline (0 km or 0 mi). The highest and lowest elevation points of San Marino are Monte Titano (739 m or 2,425 ft) and Torrente Ausa (55 m or 180 ft) respectively.<\/p>\n

Apennine mountain range cover most of San Marino and the terrain can be categorized as rugged. As the country has hilly terrain, there is no natural level ground. There are no significant water bodies in the country. In terms of size, it is one of the smallest European countries, only larger than Vatican City and Monaco.<\/p>\n

The major mountains and peaks of this country are Monte Titano, Apennine Mountains, Monte San Cristoforo, Montale, Guaita, and De La Fratta. Some of the major rivers of San Marino are San Marino River, Marano River, Fiumicello River, Cando River, and Ausa River.<\/p>\n

The climate remains warm and temperate in San Marino. The extent of rainfall is higher in the months of winter than that of summer. While the average annual temperature revolves around 18.1 \u00b0C (64.6 \u00b0F), the average annual rainfall revolves around 451 mm (17.8 ft).<\/p>\n

July is the driest month of the year as the precipitation level remains 0 mm (0 in). Most of the rainfall takes place in February with 98 mm (3.9 in) precipitation level. August remains the warmest month of the year with the average temperature revolving around 24.2 \u00b0C (75.6 \u00b0F). The coldest month of the year is January, which has an average temperature of 12.9 \u00b0C (55.2 \u00b0F).<\/p>\n

What is the Economy of San Marino?<\/h3>\n

San Marino is one of the richest countries in the world. In terms of per capita GDP (US$ 63,400) as well as living standards, the economy can be compared with the most prosperous regions of neighboring Italy. The economy of San Marino is heavily dependent upon tourism, followed by banking, manufacturing sector, and exports of fabrics, wine, clothing, ceramics, tiles, spirits, paints, and furniture.<\/p>\n

Around 90% of San Marino\u2019s export items are exported to Italy. That\u2019s why consolidation of the financial sector, as well as weakened demand from Italy since 2008, led to contraction of the San Marino economy. In 2017, the nominal GDP of the country increased at a rate of 1.5% to reach US$ 1.633 billion.<\/p>\n

The country had a negative trade balance of US$162 million in the same year. While the export value was US$126 million, the import value was US$289 million. The major export items of San Marino was woodworking machines, bottling machines, washing machines, packaged medicaments, frozen vegetables, and other edible preparations. The major items imported by the country are cars electricity, planes, helicopters, spacecraft, coated flat-rolled iron, and other footwear.<\/p>\n

The unemployment rate decreased from 9.3% in 2013 to 8.1% in 2017 and further to 8% in 2018. The poverty rate was just 3% in 2007. Since the 2008 recession, the rate of poverty has increased rapidly over the years. It increased to 4.5% in 2009 and then to 9.2% in 2015.<\/p>\n

The economy of this country has recovered since the recession and the momentum has started to pick up. The poverty rate is expected to come down with economic recovery.<\/p>\n

What is the Transportation System of San Marino?<\/h3>\n

Marino\u2019s transportation system is mainly based upon public transport systems including aerial tramways, helicopters, and buses. There is an international heliport located at Borgo Maggiore. Italy\u2019s Federico Fellini Airport serves both Italy and San Marino traffic.<\/p>\n

There is around 292 km (181 mi) long highway present in this country. Buses, taxis, and private road vehicles are the main road transport systems of the country. The Republic of San Marino has 7 licensed taxi operating companies. A 300 m (984 ft) aerial tramway connects Monte Titano and Borgo Maggiore.<\/p>\n

No major water transport system is available in the country. Though a single-line railway track is present in San Marino, no operational railway is available.<\/p>\n
