The activity of cruising is largely associated with\u00a0 pleasure voyages<\/strong>, as part of the experience, to various destinations on the way. A cruise ship, on the other hand is constructed keeping in mind the passenger\u2019s comfort and entertainment. They are therefore often described as\u00a0 \u2018balcony-laden floating condominiums.<\/strong>\u2019 Accommodating a major part of tourism industry, cruising accounts for US $29.4 billion,<\/strong> with over 19 million passengers carried worldwide. With the break of the 20th\u00a0 century, the transoceanic travelling was at its peak. There are different services and facilities available for the passengers. Almost all cruise ships have\u00a0fine-dining provisions, included in the cruise price. The \u20182018 State of the Cruise Industry Outlook<\/strong>,\u2019 released by the \u2018Cruise Lines international Association,\u2019<\/strong> offers an in-depth look at the global economic impacts of the cruise industry as well as the trends effecting the industry. Data reveals\u00a0 20.5% increase\u00a0 in the passenger\u2019s numbers, in past five years. This will be met with more ships scheduled to set sail in 2018. Supporting more than 1 million full-time employees<\/strong>,\u00a0 the global economic impact of the cruise industry generated\u00a0US $126 billion\u00a0<\/strong>in total revenue worldwide.<\/p>\n

Trends show\u00a0 Australasia\u2019s\u00a0<\/strong> cruise industry as a key contributor to this strong reported growth.\u00a0<\/strong>44%<\/strong> of all unique cruise ship passengers were Australian<\/strong> citizens. This was followed by 20%<\/strong> from United States<\/strong>, 13%<\/strong> from New Zealand,<\/strong> 8%<\/strong> from United Kingdom, 4% from Canada,<\/strong> 11% from other countries<\/i>. The peak months for cruising being October to April, also saw an exceptional busy offseason month of June, in 2018. There are various factors seen as influencing agents to the cruise expenditure movements. These include\u00a0 ship voyages, port visits, a transit versus exchange cruise, cruise ship capacity, a boutique versus large ship cruise, weather events, economic conditions and exchange rates.<\/em><\/p>\n

The CLIA, has also forecasted the\u00a0 top nine cruise travel trends<\/strong>\u00a0 in the year 2018. Disclosing that populations from all\u00a0 income brackets\u00a0 indulge in cruising, it estimates that households with lower-incomes<\/strong> will take cruise voyages. The travelers will also be seen seeking\u00a0 \u201ctransformational\u201d experiences<\/strong>. This is described as ranging from cultural immersion to extreme adventures. Other features of the report include\u00a0 sustainability at sea<\/strong>, with greater focus on sustainable tourism, expanding\u00a0 itineraries and destinations\u00a0<\/strong> as millennials get into river and small ship cruising,\u00a0 health and wellness trips<\/strong>\u00a0 with additional facilities of spas and wellness seminars and\u00a0 traveler-friendly<\/strong> onboard technologies.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The core factors like\u00a0 port-handling the influx<\/strong> and the\u00a0 added capacity<\/strong>\u00a0 to the cruises, will play a determining role for the industry\u2019s future. With\u00a0China<\/strong>\u00a0emerging as the latest inclusion to the cruising industry, it poses a great pricing challenge. In case of\u00a0 Europe<\/strong>,\u00a0 a handful of ships are being added back to contain the tourist influx. The lively, flexible and participative features of cruising, has appealed to people and has brought changes in the cruising trends lately.<\/p>\n
