The Japanese Mistry of Health, Labour, and Welfare has confirmed that Japan has nine more confirmed coronavirus cases. One person is a surgeon in his 50s who works at the same hospital where another doctor tested positive earlier, in Wakayama Prefecture. Eight others are in Tokyo. Seven of them had close contact with a taxi driver who was found to be infected, the ministry said.

First coronavirus patient dies in Europe: A Chinese tourist who tested positive for the coronavirus has died in France, according to a statement from French Health Minister Agnes Buzyn.

Malaysia has confirmed two more coronavirus cases, raising the total confirmed cases in the country to 21, according to a report from state media Bernama on Saturday. The two cases are both Chinese nationals.

A Thai medical worker who is working in close contact with another confirmed patient has contracted the coronavirus, bringing the national total to 34 cases. She is a 35-year-old medical staff. Of Thailand’s 34 confirmed cases, 20 patients are still hospitalized and 14 patients have recovered.

Americans to be evacuated from Diamond Princess tomorrow:

The US Embassy in Tokyo has announced detailed plans for a voluntary evacuation for US citizens on board the Diamond Princess cruise ship and their immediate family. Evacuation via a Chartered flight on Sunday. Those who choose to return to the US on a charter aircraft will be required to undergo another 14 days of quarantine. Infected Americans will be staying in Japan. The flight with the passengers will land in California and Texas.

The US State Department has announced that it would evacuate about 380 Americans who are currently on the Diamond Princess cruise ship docked under quarantine in Japan, once the quarantine lifts next week. The quarantine is scheduled to end on February 19. The cruise ship is carrying more than 3,700 people and is under quarantine since February 4. So far, 219 cases of the coronavirus have been confirmed on the ship.

Beijing is setting stricter Quarantine rules. The mandate came as the Chinese government disclosed that hundreds of medical workers who had been helping combat the coronavirus outbreak had, in fact, become infected with the virus and at least six have died. According to the figures released by Chinese authorities, the death toll has surpassed 1,500 and the number of infections now exceeds 66,000.

Hong Kong Disneyland has agreed to lend vacant sites to the government as potential quarantine facilities, said city officials in a press conference. However, the government has not released any plans on how to use the designated site. There are currently 56 cases of confirmed novel coronavirus in Hong Kong.

Egypt confirms first coronavirus case, says the affected person is a foreigner who had been put into isolation at the hospital. The health ministry said in a statement that it had immediately informed the World Health Organization and had taken all necessary preventative measures. The case marks the first confirmed case of the disease in Africa.

The Indian Embassy tweeted about the Indian Nationals On-Board the Quarantined Cruise Ship Diamond Princess at Japan and attached the health bulletin in the tweet, which said: “As of 14 February 2020, altogether 218 people have tested positive for COVID-19, including 3 (three) Indian crew members. All 2018 people including Indian nationals have been taken to hospitals for further treatment and quarantine.” All three Indians are undergoing treatment and their health conditions are reportedly improving. It also emphasized that it is continuously in touch with the Japanese authorities to check on the Indian nationals.

Even as the first passengers of the Diamond Princess ship made their exit after testing negative, Reuters reports states that China will grow at its slowest rate since the global financial crisis this quarter.

Tokyo Olympic organizers reiterated their message at the start of two days of meetings with the International Olympic Committee that the 2020 Games will not be waylaid by the virus that is spreading from neighboring China. WHO also told IOC that there is no case for cancelling the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. The 17-day Tokyo Olympics event is due to start on July 24.
