Marondera is a small town situated near the capital city of Harare. People visiting Harare can definitely move around Marondera, which has historic connections. The former name of Marondera was Marandellas, till the year 1982. While moving towards the Eastern Highlands, you can encounter Marondera and it is one of the Zimbabwe sightseeing spots.
Marondera History
The town came up in 1890 as a kind of resting place on the path that led to Mutare from Harare. It got its name from Marondera who was leader of the Barozwi people. It was during the Shona resistance in 1896, that the town got destroyed and was shifted to some 4 miles to the north near the railway lines of Harare and Beira. The British made use of Marondera, at the time of the South African Boer War.

This place is basically an agricultural town and the home of many farming communities. Marondera is the hub of a huge farming community. The place exudes a mingled fragrance of eucalyptus and pine during the dry winter months. The temperate climatic condition is conducive for the growth of grapes. One can also find maize-farming, sheep and orchards. Marondera is the capital of the Zimbabwean province of Mashonaland East.
