Kwekwe is a notable mining and industrial town of Zimbabwe and it is present near the southwestern part of Harare, the country's capital. Kwekwe is another Zimbabwe sightseeing destination which many travelers visit for its mining culture and historical value. Kwekwe is place in the Midlands region of Zimbabwe.
Kwekwe Mining
Kwekwe was established in the year 1890 and the town was said to be constructed on gold. People from the West got attracted to Kwekwe 's huge stores of glittering gold. Gold was given the shape of fascinating ornaments and other items. It olden days, when Kwekwe was crowded with British settlers, there were good number of lime, iron and chrome mines. Today ZISCO is the focal point of the country's steel industry.
Kwekwe Features
The word Kwekwe actually resembles the noise made by frogs that visit the river banks during the rainy season. Hence Kwekwe gets its name from this feature of the town. Kwekwe is the meeting point of 4 rivers, namely Kwekwe, Sebakwe, Gweru and Umniati. This rivers provide irrigation to farms of wheat and maize. Kwekwe also has provisions for cattle ranches.
In the modern town of Kwekwe one gets to hear the high-pitched and monotonous sounds of the industries.
