Zambia National Football Team has a tragic history behind it. A military plane, with the national team on board, met with an accident. The plane was on its way to Senegal prior to a qualifying match to the World Cup of 1994. It was a huge loss for the nation as the entire Zambia football team including the crew died in the crash.
Zambia National Football Team has achieved several milestones. It has twice qualified in the African National Cup. The Olympic football tournament of 1988 held in Seoul, South Korea was a land mark in the history of soccer in Zambia. The Zambia National Football Team emerged victorious in a match opposite Italy, scoring four goals.
