Zambia Sports

Among most of the people of Zambia, sports is a popular activity. Some of the popular Zambian sports include football, golf, badminton and a host of water sports. The Zambezi River provides for excellent water sports in Zambia.

Sports in Zambia find enthusiasts across all ages. Perhaps football tops the list of favorite sports of the Zambians. The Zambia National Football Team is the official soccer team of the country, which is regulated by the Football Association of Zambia. The Zambia National Football Team has several feathers to its cap. In the 1988 Olympic football tournament held in South Korea, the Zambian football team won the match against Italy.

Golf is yet another popular Zambia sports. There are several world class golf courses in Zambia and golf clubs in Zambia. The Lusaka Golf Club is one among them. Zambia hosts the Stanbic Zambia Open Golf Tournament.

Rugby is also played in Zambia. Rugby in Zambia is the outcome of the colonial rule in the country. There are twelve rugby teams in Zambia.

Water sports in Zambia is particularly popular among the tourists. White water river rafting and kayaking on the Zambezi River are two of the water sports that are sought after among the tourists.

Zambia sports also features boxing. At the Commonwealth Games of 2002, Zambia had won a Gold, Bronze and Silver medal.
