Transport to Yemen was not adequately developed until very recent times, but an active initiative on the part of the Yemenite government has made the process of reaching Yemen comparatively easier. The best and most preferable means of transport, which should be used in order to reach Yemen, is flight. Although Yemen can be reached by air, water and even roadways, availing a flight is much easier and comfortable.
Yemenite airports are well connected with Sana'a the most important international airport in the country. It is the Sana'a airport that most international flights prefer to land in. The regional airports of Yemen are served through connecting flights from Sana'a airport. Western Europe, Russia, East Africa, Middle East and Asia provide direct flights to Yemen's Sana'a airport.
Road transport is still not very developed in Yemen. If one prefers reaching Yemen aboard a bus then it should be noted that the journey is not very comfortable and extremely slow. Permanent bus routes have been established between Saudi Arabia and Yemen through the Oman border. Water transport is nothing better and there are no fixed ferry rates operating in the country. The government does not provide any permanent ferry service and Yemenites have taken to this ferry business chiefly for commercial purposes. However, traveling aboard a ferry is not very wise since ferry owners charge exorbitant prices and often tourists may get trapped in legal hassles at the Yemen border.
