Architecture of Yemen is praiseworthy. Yemen is home to numerous wonderful historical buildings and towns that are well planned. These architectural evidences of historical significances have been well preserved. Very recently, two awards have been given to Yemen.
One of the awards was for Shibam, a town located in Hadhramout province. The other award was given for Al-Ameriya Complex, situated in Rada town. Aga Khan Foundation Award is one of the architectural awards, given on international level.
Another architectural evidence of Yemen is the Al-Ameriya Madrasa. One will notice the Islamic influence in the architectural designs and structures. The decorations in the building bear witness to the amalgamation of western and eastern Islamic style. Certain measures have been taken to restore this building.
Marib Dam, built in about 7th century is another landmark in Yemen architecture. It belonged to the Sabaeans and later it was maintained by the rulers of Himyars. This dam and the associated irrigation project helped in the agricultural activities of the Marib city.
For restoration works, many non-governmental and governmental bodies of countries like Germany and Netherlands have offered contributions. The preservation of the architecture of Yemen does not only incorporate the restoration of the particular buildings, but it includes the preservation of heritage and aesthetics.
