Yemen Desert

Yemen Desert, which is part of the Arabian Desert, is popularly known as Rub al Khali or Empty Quarters. This desert in Yemen commences in the northeastern region of Yemen and covers the whole eastern region. This region does not consist of any river. People living here have to satisfy their needs of water from small oases and wadis, which are also less in number.

The desert of Yemen is characterized with very hot climate. The climate gets worsened in the extreme east, which is why no living being can be found there. The only place in the east that is inhabited by living beings is Hadhramout, as it consists of coastal areas and a number of wadis. Agriculture to certain extent is possible.

Various sandstorms and dust storms occur in the desert at Yemen during the summer season. During this time, the weather of the Yemen Desert is very warm and tropical. Absence of water bodies is an additional cause of concern.

The desert of Yemen is the largest sand desert in the world. It begins in the north eastern region of Yemen where the highlands end. From there it extends to Persian Gulf and Oman in Jordan.
