Texas Stadium

Texas Stadium , the home field of the Dallas Cowboy 's of the National Football League was constructed as a substitute of the Cotton Bowl of Fair Park and is owned by the City of Irving and operated by the Texas Stadium Corp . Its construction cost touched US $35 million. Initially, the stadium was planned to be a dome-shaped one but the plan was not implemented as the stadium was found to be unable to support the structure. The stadium, which had an artificial turf, officially called the Texas Turf , as the surface, was opened on the 24 th of October, 1971. In the middle of the season in 2002, the Texas Turf was replaced by a softer surface called the RealGrass .

Since its opening, the Texas Stadium has been holding a number of football matches of the NFL. From 1971, the year it was opened, the stadium has been having the Dallas Cowboys as the tenants who will remain there till 2008. The Dallas Tornado also used the stadium from 1972 to 1975. The stadium also hosts college football and has had the experience of temporarily being the home ground of the Pleno Senior High School and Highland Park High School in the past. It has been the hosts to the Big 12 conference championship game in 2001 and the Pro Bowl in 1973. In addition to these sporting events, the Texas Stadium has also staged several concerts and even religious gatherings.

The Texas Stadium is one of the major stadiums of the United States. However, it remains to be seen what happens to the stadium after the end of the tenure of the Dallas Cowboys.
