Michigan Stadium


Michigan Stadium , popular as The Big House , is the largest stadium in the world for playing American Football and is located in Ann Arbor in Michigan. It is the home stadium for the University of Michigan . The stadium was built in 1927 and the cost of construction was $950,000. It is the fifth largest stadium in the world and the 29 th largest sports venue. The first match in the stadium was played between the University of Michigan and Ohio Wesleyan on 1 st October, 1927. Initially, the stadium had a seating arrangement for 72,000 spectators. Through several renovations, the capacity of the stadium was increased to 107,501 in 1998 and it remains the same till date.

The Michigan Stadium is owned and operated by the University of Michigan. The stadium, designed and constructed by famous architect Bernard Green , has a field turf as the surface. In 1987, the NCAA or National Collegiate Athletic Association members Michigan Wolverines moved into the stadium and they are still the tenants of the Michigan Stadium. The Michigan Stadium provides the sportspersons with a number of amenities including traffic and parking facilities , shuttle service for handicapped spectators and many more.

The Michigan Stadium is expected to have a renovation which is going to give the stadium a complete makeover. It is expected that the Michigan Stadium will return in a renovated form to boost the sporting events of the state by 2010.
