Chicago Stadium

Chicago Stadium , an indoor arena owned by Arthur Wirtz and opened on the 28 th of March in the year 1928, was the largest indoor sporting arena of the world at the time when it was constructed. Even at that time, the construction cost of the stadium touched $9.5 million with Chicago sports promoter Paddy Harmon funding $2.5 million. The Chicago Stadium was the first arena in the world to have an air conditioning system. The stadium could accommodate 17,317 people who could watch a match seating in their seats. However, unlike other stadiums, standing inside the stadium to watch the matches was also allowed in Chicago Stadium.

The Chicago Blackhawks of the NHL or the National Hockey League had been the tenants of the stadium from 1929 to 1994. As a result of it, the Chicago Stadium had the experience of hosting National Hockey League matches including the 1991 NHL All-Star Game . However, the Chicago Bulls of the NBA or the National Basketball Association used the Chicago Stadium from 1967 to 1964 during which the stadium also hosted a number of basketball matches.

With the Chicago Bulls moving to the United Center in 1994, the Chicago Stadium was no longer in use. It was demolished the following year and with it, a long history of sports in the United States got buried.
