The Cleveland Browns Stadium is home to the Cleveland Browns, a team in the National Football League . It is situated near Erie Lake in Cleveland, Ohio. The stadium stands over 31 acres of land and has a capacity of 73,200 people. A unique feature of this stadium is that it does not have any columns or overhangs. Previously the Cleveland Municipal Stadium stood at the same venue where the present stadium stands but the former was completely demolished after the end of the 1996 National Football League . The debris was used to make an artificial reef on Erie Lake. The Cleveland Browns Stadium hosted its first match during the 1999 NFL season in the month of July.
The Cleveland Browns Stadium authorities decided against selling the naming rights of the stadium to any private party. This is another unique feature of the stadium as in most cases the stadium's name is changed in accordance with the sponsors. However, the naming rights for the four main gates of the Cleveland Browns Stadium have been sold to sponsors. The northeast corner gate is called STERIS Gate , the northwest one is known as FirstEnergy Gate while the southeast corner and southwest corner gates are known as National City Gate and Cleveland Clinic Sports Health Gate respectively. As the stadium is covered and since Cleveland is prone to extreme weathers, the Cleveland Browns Stadium has not been awarded a Super Bowl match till date.
