Yet another political tension is flaring up in Egypt as the country sees the worst football riots. The riots began at a soccer match in the Egyptian city of Port Said when fans of the local team, Al-Masry, stormed the pitch following a rare 3-1 win against Al-Ahly.
The riots have led to clashes between the police and the protesters resulting in the death of over 70 people while leaving hundred others injured. About 25 protesters were injured in Suez and 900 in Cairo. Egyptian Prime Minister has sacked the head of Egypt football association and many other officials have also been suspended, resources say.
The turmoil in the state has led fans and politicians to turn on the ruling army accusing them of providing inadequate security. This has been the deadliest incident in Egypt since Hosni Mubarak was ousted.
