Holland America Line Cruises started under the name The Netherlands-America Steamship Company over 130 years ago, but soon changed to its present name since it carried large number of immigrants from Holland to America . Though Holland America Line is now an American company, all its ships bear a suffix ‘dam' to their names, in fond remembrance of the dams that line the rivers in Netherlands.
